Ojojo- Yam Fritters

Most people do not know what to do with water yam, majority of people definitely can not eat it by boiling it because the texture and taste is not really liked, so most of the time, we don't buy them in the market or even if we have them at home, we don't make use of it, and we eventually throw them away.
However, there are great use of water yam, and the Ojojo is a great food you can make with water yam.
Ojojo is a traditional Nigerian recipe for a cool  snack made with water yam mixed with chilli paste, onion and prawns that are deep fried until crisp before serving.
 
How to make The Ojojo
INGREDIENTS
Water Yam
Onion
Pepper
Stock Cube
Salt
Oil
Directions

  • Cut and clean yam tuber
  • Grate using a hand held grater
  • Remove any excess water from the water yam
  • Add in salt, onion, stock cube and pepper to the grated yam
  • Combine all ingredients thoroughly
  • Set oil on medium heat, once the oil is hot enough, add in the yam paste bits at a time.
  • Fry on each side for 3 minutes or until golden brown.
Ojojo is a snack that can be eaten alone, or it could be eaten with other street snack like Akara (check how to make that here), fried yam and beverages like koko, pap, and custard.
