Fashion and Danfo...

If you live in Lagos then you are rugged, physically or mentally. Life in Lagos isn't as rosy as people paint it....London is London and Lagos is Lagos. If you can survive Lagos then, you can survive any where . Lagos is for hustlers, fast thinkers and correct entrepreneurs. You cant be slow and live in Lagos...ko possible.
Its only in Lagos that you'll seat in traffic for over 3hrs from Fadeyi to Jibowu....and no one complains. Still in that traffic you can cook your dinner because hawkers bring everything including household appliances to you in traffic. Its still this same Lagos that you'll cross the road with James Bond skills (shout out to razby).

 Its only in Lagos you'll wake up in the morning looking smart in your white

shirt but when you get to the Bus-stop, because there are hundreds of other Lagosians struggling to enter the same bus, you end up spending hours at the Bus-stop. Though you left home as early as 5am,you get to work by 9am with a rumpled and cream colored shirt (instead of white)LOL....In the  evening after work, on your way home in the Danfo your seat partner is a fish seller, the man behind you is a mechanic....at the end of the day sha, you return home with a brown shirt....chaaaiii...what a day!
I know its not so easy to manage fashion and still hustle bus in Lagos, especially when you have an Owambe event with your Gele touching the sky or when the dress code is all white everything.....All the pain would end these moment, can I get an AMEN.

These few tips would help you stay clean and nice even after a Danfo ride;
  • First , you don't have to struggle with other passengers to get on a bus...be patient, wait for the next turn.
  • Set out early so that you'll be among the first set of passengers to get on the bus...that way you can inspect the features of the bus stylishly, check the seats, make sure it is not 'pako' (wooden) seats.

  • Forget comfort in a public bus, do not sit like its your personal ride...most of these Danfo buses are washed once a year... be calculative, watch the passengers coming in to sit beside you, if its a fish seller then switch position. The front seat by the driver is just perfect.
  • If you are wearing a white shirt on a Monday morning, make sure you have a suit or blazer worn over it to prevent it from getting stained.
  • Always work with a pocket size shoe polish, this will always come in handy.
  • Make sure you mind your business especially on a Monday morning, do not argue or fight with anyone especially the conductor. If not, you might get to work with a ripped shirt...lol..this is lagos o! After work, you can famz your colleague that has a car to give you a ride to your Bustop...but what if his on sick leave...?
  • If its an owambe outing you might spend hours in traffic ,so make sure your make up is not heavy. You can touch it up at the venue. Your gele can be folded in your bag, an expert would tie it for you at the party venue, but if you must tie it, get a small Gele.
  • Ladies you know your dress is quite short and you are forming Jacky Chan to get on the bus....hehehe, I laugh in french...always take your time to get on the bus and to alight.
  • Its better to get on a Danfo at the bus park or garage, its more peaceful and organised there.

 All these and more are reasons why we still love Lagos.
